The middle section of Cave Creek winds its way down between New River Mesa and Skull Mesa. At the time my brother and I visited the area, Cave Creek's water level was low, but we could see that raging torrents had plastered debris against rocks and trees yards higher than the current water line. The area is thick with Saguaro and Prickly Pear cactus and the feeling of desolation.
New River Mesa looms above Cave Creek
Cave Creek, barely moving. But, at least there is water.
Interesting colors of Prickly Pear
Saguaro Cactus spines shining
